Providence Flea and RISD Museum

A late post from a visit to The Providence Flea ; an upscale urban flea market on the Providence River Greenway, held every Sunday from 10 am – 4 pm, rain or shinethrough August 25th across the street from 345 South Water Street, Providence–featuring unusual finds, vintage fashion, local crafts, antiques, curiosities, furniture and more.

And after that we visited RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) Museum (just across the street from the Flea om Southwater Street) to see its latest exhibition Artist/Rebel/Dandy: Men of Fashion (April 28 through August 18, 2013); Rather than following strict definitions, Artist/Rebel/Dandy features myriad manifestations of the dandy’s style and persona, from the discreet sophistication and consummate elegance of Beau Brummell (1778–1840) to the romantics and revolutionaries of today—including Rick Owens, Patti Smith, Ouigi Theodore, and Waris AhluwaliaThe exhibition leave me with so much awe with those dandy’s unsual patterns, fabrics, and cut.

603171_404191702997834_848486108_nThe museum is free every Sunday (10 to 5 pm) and very worth visited with its remarkable painting and sculpture collections;  my highlights include Renaissance and Baroque works by 18th- and 19th-century American paintings by Copley, Homer, Mary Cassatt, and John Singer Sargent; 19th and 20th century European paintings and sculpture by Manet, Monet, Degas, Cézanne, Rodin, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and others great artists.
