I’m not a huge fan of Bob Dylan, but I found this book quiet enchanting – both for me and the kids. The words is based on Dylan’s lyrics of his most-beloved song “Forever Young” and the beautiful illustrations courtesy of Paul Rogers – who made a lot of great works.
Forever Young (Bob Dylan, Simon and Schuster, 2008) will go for the preschoolers 2.5+, as you can talk many objects along the book which took place in NYC circa late 60-70s. The illustrations parallel the lyrics of the song by telling the story of a kid growing up and making connections to people and to the world around him. In the Illustrator’s Notes section there are some additional historical background about the symbolic images in the book related to Dylan’s journey and the big event during that era. You can take a look inside of the book here – even though it’s not all the pages.
The lyrics is strong, this is my wishes for Azka and Khalif…
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
(Bob Dylan – Forever Young)
